Sometimes all you need is a little pat o' butter, as is the case with this custom hand-sewn toast plushie. This little toast found a happy home with a little girl named Cleo.

Happy Holidays to all!

It sure seems like a lot of creative and crafty bloggers have had the giving spirit this year. I've come across numerous blogs with special holiday giveaways, including one of my favorites, Lab Partners. Lab Partners is run by Sarah & Ryan who have a retro, modern design sense. They're colorful and cheery designs remind me of book and advertising illustrations from the 1950s and 1960s. I've attached some photos of their work here. Scary Skeleton Gingerbread Cookies

I made this batch of cookies last night as a test run of a molasses-free gingerbread cookie recipe and, unfortunately, wasn't happy with the way these little buggers tasted. I'm going to try a different recipe and, if it's a success, I will be posting it here. I used a standard holiday gingerbread man cookie cutter and a simple cookie icing to make these spooky skeletons.

Mini Crustless Spinach Quiche

Well, I must say, it has been quite some time since we have updated the blog. So sorry...with Lauren moving into a new place and myself starting a new job, we have been both adjusting. And so you don't feel too upset with us, I thought I would share a yummy recipe for crustless mini quiches. These are so great and yet so simple to make.

What you need:
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 small onion, chopped (My husband doesn't like the thought of onion in his food, so I minced them up super small, so they gave flavor, but went unnoticed by the hubby)
1 (10 oz) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
5 eggs, beaten
3 c shredded Muenster cheese (or any type of cheese you are in the mood for)
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground pepper

What you do:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a muffin tin.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are soft. Stir in spinach and continue cooking until excess moisture has evaporated.
In a large bowl, combine eggs, cheese, salt and pepper. Add spinach mixture and stir to blend. Scoop mixture into 12 muffin tins, filling each halfway.
Bake in preheated oven until eggs have set, about 25 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Yields a dozen

While I was waiting in the airport today, I came across a magazine that features breakfast! It was this week's New York Magazine and it has a few articles featuring breakfast and why and what people eat for this meal of the day. It also lists some good breakfast spots in NYC. Giant Eggs in Netherlands

So I came across this today on Toxel.com and thought this would be great to share. This breakfast inspired environmental installation by Dutch artist, Henk Hofstra, can be found in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. The piece is made up of several 100 ft wide sunny side up eggs and will be on display for the next 6 months.

I especially love how Hofstra created the three-dimensional yolks (seen below). I would love to know what type of medium he used. Does the yolk inflate, and is it made of a similar fabric, such as the inflatable snowmen found in so many people's yards during the Winter holidays? Or, is it hard and made of molded plastic, plaster, or metal? Maybe it is one giant yoga ball (and I mean giant) cut in half and secured to the pavement by caulk? Whatever the medium used, what a happy and unexpected art installation.

Thanks Everyone for coming out to the Grandma Party. We hope you all had a great time. I know we did! I would have to say this year has been the best so far! Casey and the Stardust gang worked their keisters off and did a wonderful job in organizing the event.

Since my camera decided to go on vacation (aka not working) on Sunday, I unfortunately, can't share any pictures, but instead I will share this yummy recipe that I prepared for my Mom and my Mother-in-Law over the Mother's Day weekend. Hope you enjoy it just as much as we did.

Overnight French Toast
Ok, so it is called, "Overnight French Toast" but I only had it sit for an hour, and it was just as YUM-EEEE!

INGREDIENTS
9 eggs
2 and 1/2 cups light cream
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons rum
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
24 (3/4 inch thick) slices French bread

DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, beat eggs with a whisk. Mix in cream, sugar, rum, vanilla and cinnamon. Place the bread in a single layer in two lightly greased glass casserole dishes. Pour the egg mixture over the bread in each dish. Turn bread over to coat both sides. Cover and refrigerate overnight (or at least refrigerate for 30 minutes to an hour). Bake, uncovered, at 400 degrees F for 20-22 minutes or until golden.

TO SERVE
Makes about 10 servings. Serve with maple syrup, butter, and fresh berries.

This is so quick and easy, this will become the only way to prepare French Toast.

Broken Plate Rings

These little rings came to me one night when I was wondering what kind of things Wendy and I could reuse, recycle, or re- purpose. My first reaction was silverware (which we already use to make necklaces), second was plates and flatware! That's right! These little unique rings are made from broken plates that I've collected from local thrift stores. Each one is handcrafted and has a unique pattern. I am happy to announce that Lauren and I will be participating in this year's Grandma Party Bazaar at Stardust Coffee and Film in Orlando (Whoo Hoo, this is our third time). Blackberry Cobbler

Serves 4

Filling
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
pinch of salt
3 cups blackberries ( I used frozen)
1/2 tablespoon lemon juice

Topping
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar, plus some for sprinkling
2 tablespoons corn meal
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup COLD butter
1/3 cup heavy whipping cream

Preheat oven to 375 F.

To make the filling
Whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl. Add the blackberries to the bowl and very gently toss to coat with the sugar mixture. Drizzle with the lemon juice. Pour the filling into a 8 x 8 inch baking dish. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the filling is hot and bubbling around the edges.

To make the topping
Whisk together the flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda and salt. With a pastry blender or a fork, cut in the butter until it is the size of small peas. (This may take a while if doing it by hand). Stir in the heavy whipping cream until no dry pockets remain.

Remove the cobbler from the oven and drop small crumbles of topping on top of the filling, using all of the topping. Sprinkle them lightly with sugar. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until the filling is hot and bubbly and the topping is brown. Cool on a wire rack for about 20 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla bean ice cream for extra yumminess!

Monsieur French Toast is admiring the Eiffel tower, and waiting for the love of his life....madame french toast. Madame French Toast has put on her Eiffel tower necklace and headed to the park for a glorious day with her wee french poodle. Oooo laaaa laaa.

These are the first and second prints in the "International Breakfast" series I'm working on. Next up....Canadian Bacon!

B is for Bacon......and Banana too. These are two new Breakfast Bunch Handmade food plushies that will soon become magnets to help you hold your shopping list to the fridge, or a to-do list to your whiteboard. They're made of felt and are hand-sewn.

Some friends and I have debated whether bacon and banana are a good food combo. None of us have tried it yet, but I say these to flavors could be friends...but then again, I have strange tastes sometimes!

Mega-Craftzilla

We hope some of you were able to make it out to the Mega-Craftzilla. I think it was such a clever idea to let dinos and crafters come together into one big happy event. You would have thought some of the dinos were shopping for some homemade goodies. I must say there was some great talent out there. Beautiful and funky jewelry, handmade hula hoops (and fuzzy leg warmers), neat glass bead work (they even had some fried egg piece, which is right up our alley), jumbo button magnets, felties, and so much more. The weather was perfect, the concept was clever, the crafts were well worth it, and the dinos were so photogenic. We had a great time and got some really fun pictures of the Dinosaur World. Interesting little side fact, while on Flickr, I wanted to see if there were any groups that I would want to share my dino pictures with and I came across a Roadside Dinosaurs group. I can't believe how many random giant dinosaur sculptures/cement casts are out there. There are some even made from car bumpers...really interesting and creative.

Between Drying Times

While printing the recipe cards, I needed to find something to do to make the drying time seems faster. This is what I whipped up to pass the time...Some yummy banana bread!!!

Banana Bread
(recipe from the Better Homes and Garden Cookbook)

2 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 eggs, beaten
1-1/2 cups mashed banana (5 medium)-I used 3 and it was just as yummy
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cooking oil or melted butter or margarine
1/4 cup chopped walnuts-I left these out. I don't really like chunks in my banana bread

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease bottom and 1/2 inch up the sides of one 9x5x3-inch or two 7-1/2x3-1/2x2-inch loaf pans; set aside. In a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Make a well in center of flour mixture; set aside.
2. In a medium bowl combine eggs, banana, sugar, and oil. Add egg mixture all at once to flour mixture. Stir just until moistened (batter should be lumpy). Fold in nuts. Spoon batter into prepared pan(s). If desired, sprinkle Streusel Topping over batter.
3. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes for 9x5x3-inch pan or 40 to 45 minutes for 7-1/2x3-1/2x2-inch pans or until a wooden toothpick inserted near center comes out clean (if necessary, cover loosely with foil the last 15 minutes of baking to prevent overbrowning). Cool in pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool completely on a wire rack. Wrap and store overnight before slicing.

4. Makes 1 loaf (16 slices)

Cooking Up A Storm

Oh my goodness, Lauren's Monsieur French Toast is the crème de la crème. He is complete cuteness and sophistication all wrapped up in one :). I know her Gocco Swap Group will be so happy to get them.

So, I guess it is my turn to share my Mid-Winer Gocco Swap item. Here they are folks, right off the press (that makes the gocco machine sound like such an industrialized mammoth machine, but it practically looks like a child's toy and is the size of a shoe box) stacked mixing bowl recipe cards. My gocco group for the swap will be getting a set of 10 white/gold bowls and a set of 5 red/gold bowls. I really loved how the gold screen gave the illusion of white bowls that I brought the printing of the red screen to a halt. But then I couldn't decide which set to give whom, and thought it would be best to give everyone a bit of each.

I got the idea for mixing bowls because they have been my friends over the past few months. The have been lending aid when I needed to whip up something to take to all the get togethers that have been happening. I wanted to make a little photo shoot for photographing the swap items, and can I just say, those recipe cards really worked it on the cutting board stage. Now, they want to be dressed up with delicious recipes. Thanks again, Sarah (cloth.paper.string)!!! Lauren and I really enjoyed being apart of the gocco swap. Now, we must wait for the others swap items to come. I know the deadline was just yesterday for sending them out, but I have become like a child (waiting for their 3-proofs of purchase plus $2.95 for shipping toy from the cereal box company) and jolt out the front door, leap over the curb (I tripped over it a couple of times, so now I know to leap), and sprint to the mail box to check to see if the swap items have arrived.

Sharing the Love (and the ink)

It's mid-winter gocco swap day!
Wendy and I kept ourselves busy this weekend, rushing to finish our prints on time. I had a lot of fun and am starting to feel much more comfortable with the gocco printer. I <3 Gocco! Wendy and I each created a unique piece to contribute to the swap and will be sending our prints out sometime today. Some folks got their pieces out early and I've already recieved one from Karen. Check it out at her flickr page.
And now, I'm pleased to introduce Monsieur French Toast, the newest "member" of the breakfast bunch, and print for the mid-winter gocco swap! Thanks again to Sarah over at cloth.paper.string for organizing the swap!

Bazaar and Swap

The Pink Light Bazaar was exquisite!!! Seriously, who could go wrong with delicious cupcakes (I think there were about 12 different cupcake flavors to pick from), pink champagne, handmade goodies, vintage clothes, little bit of mingling, and great tunes? I was able to snag this really awesome vintage button necklace from Stray Creative. And the coolest thing about it, it is totally reversible! I am so happy that Lauren found out about this great event, otherwise, we would have missed out on a whole lot of fun.

So, the Gocco Swap deadline is almost here, Feb. 11th. And (drum roll please) that means a bunch of gocco'd bundles of joys should be arriving in the mail soon. Oh, how I am so excited. I was able to sneak a few peaks at what some of the participants have made through their blogs, and the Gocco Swap Flickr page. But there have only been a few to post images up because they probably all feel the same way I do... They want it to be a surprise. Once the deadline passes, I will totally share pictures of the gocco'd creations.

Pinklight Bazaar

So, on top of the excitement of the Mid-Winter Gocco Swap, which we both just received emails from cloth.paper.string with our group members' addresses, and Lauren's amazing crafty cupcake obsession (I seriously can't wait to try that yummy icing recipe! see previous post), we almost forgot to tell you all about the upcoming Pink Light Bazaar!!! (I know that was an extremely long run on sentence, but I'm too darn excited about all these great things happening).

The Pink Light Bazaar is a night packed full with cupcakes, girly music, crafts and is an excuse to get all dolled up in your most girly dress. It is happening this Sunday in Winter Park. Cupcake (Obsession?)

I <3 Cupcakes and have been slightly obsessed with the little boogers recently. This post is all about various cupcake adventures that have happened over the past month.

The felt plushie ornaments from our 12/14 post have evolved into....you guessed it......CUPCAKES! They come in a variety of "flavors" and all have different personalities. More photos to come!

For New Year's Eve I experimented with Strawberry & Champagne Cupcakes. I promised my roommate that I'd share the frosting recipe here. It can be found at the end of this post. My vision was to create a vanilla cake, stuffed with a champagne filling, topped off with fresh strawberry frosting. Unfortunately the cake was dry, the filling was too custard like, BUT the frosting: OH-SO-Fabulous.

After that I felt the need to try some new recipes (as well as something to keep me on track this year), so I ordered myself a Cupcake-A-Day recipe desk calendar. Hopefully some of those will be more successful!

Fresh Strawberry Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients
2 sticks (1 cup) butter soft-ened
1/2 jar (3-4oz) marshmallow cream (such as Marshmallow Fluff or Creme)
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
6-7 strawberries, with the stems removed

Directions
Beat butter in a medium bowl with mixer on medium speed until creamy.
Beat in marshmallow cream.
When well blended, beat in confectioners' sugar and vanilla.
Blend in sliced strawberries.
Add a little more confectioners’ sugar as needed to achieve the texture you'd like.
Increase speed to high and beat 3 to 4 minutes until fluffy.

Happy New Year, Everyone!!! Well, with the craziness of the holidays pretty much over, and the excitement of the new year brewing, it is about time for a new post, don't you think? Tonight Lauren and I are meeting up for a Crafty Brainstorming Night. The thinking caps are almost fully charged, though they never really turn off, we are ready to see what we come up with next. Although I can say this much, we have been already throwing around ideas that we think cooks and scrapbookers will enjoy. Some other big news, we will be participating in the Mid-Winter Gocco Swap that Cloth.Paper.String is hosting. You should really check it out. A bunch of gocco fanatics will be swapping their gocco creations with other gocco fanatics, creating a circle of gocco appreciation madness!!! I can't wait to see what others will make. After February 11th, that is when the gocco bundles of joy should be popping up on the door steps, we will share them with you. YAY!!!

Home Slice

Finally finished up some small felt plushies! Wendy started my obsession with making these while we were at the Grandma Party. She shared some of her thread and felt and I was hooked. I plan on sharing these particular ones with family as stocking stuffers and ornaments for Christmas.
I've also been wondering if we should add similar plushies to our table for the next grandma party. Maybe we could make child friendly ones that didn't have beady eyes, or ones that are throw pillow size.
Any suggestions or ideas for these cuties?

Gocco Maniac

So, if you have seen Lauren's adorable notecards and the Breakfast Bunch business cards, then you have seen her awesome goccoing skills. This machine is the coolest thing ever! I have owned one for some time now and finally, I brushed the dust off the box and cracked this puppy out. Once, I got my design on the screen, there was no stopping me. These are the Christmas cards that I made. They worked out perfectly for a first time attempt. I ordered more supplies the other day, and I can't wait for them to get here. I am so excited to make some breakfast creations with this neat little contraption. I am thinking journals, recipe cards, and some framed art might be next???

Grandma Party Has Come and Gone tear

Well, the G-Ma Party is over :( but we totally had a blast. There were tons of awesome things for sale and things to do, such as the Community Pool (that was a structure built of PVC pipe, plastic orange construction fencing, and cardboard boxes) that you could pay 50 cents for the day to swim among a sea of balloons. What a clever idea, and I know the kiddies totally loved it.

I think after each Grandma Party we participate in, we come away with new product ideas, better ways to show off our items, and promote the Breakfast Bunch. So, with that being said, Lauren and I have been doing some research, and we want to make it possible for you to get your hands on our merchandise. So, hopefully you will be able to find our stuff online or in a store near you (well for the local O-towners that is) really soon.

Thanks to everyone that came out. It was great seeing new and old faces. Did you know, even Lauren's Grandma was there? How cute is that, a Grandma at a Grandma Party!!!

So what do we do now that the G-Ma Party is over??? Well, I know Lauren has been making adorable holiday ornaments to share with friends and family. I don't want to give anything away, but lets just say, they are keeping with the breakfast theme. And I am going to attempt my first try with the gocco and make some gift tags/ornaments.

The grandma party craft bazaar is almost here. We've recycled some old cereal boxes to use as business cards. This is our second show and I think we're getting the hang of things.This one's gonna be short. I gotta get busy packaging items and putting final touches together.

Whoo Hoo!!! 2 more days to go until the G-Ma Party is here! We have been busy crafting up a storm, and we are so excited to show off our breakfast inspired goodies. Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day (even though these goodies aren't edible), we think your appetite will be well taking care of. Lauren's spoon jewelry and key rings are the coolest thing since sliced bread. And Priscilla's crocheted scarves will have you wishing for a White Christmas, or at least for a cold front to come through, and if that happens, you could always just blast the A/C. Well, we hope you come out and support the local crafters.

Yay for Grandmas. They ROCK in rocking chairs!

Oh, one quick side note, we will let you know for sure, but we are hoping to open up an etsy shop soon. We will keep you posted.

Countdown to Grandma Party Craft Bazaar

3 days left! Wendy, Priscilla, and I met last night to share some ideas and go over final details for the Grandma Party. We're all a couple of excited, giddy, crafty gals and can't wait!
Sounds like Priscilla will have her crocheted hats and neck wraps. Wendy made an adorable egg pin cushion and plans on having some yo-yo pins. That girl has got all kinds of ideas. I've got screen-printed holiday cards and silverware jewelry.

Here's a sample of the silverware jewelry i'll be selling at the Grandma Party on December 8th! All pieces are made from the unique handles of antique spoons or forks. I currently have 22 unique pieces including rings, necklace pendents, and keychain rings.

Wendy and I have been preparing for our second Grandma Party, a one day craft bazaar at Stardust Coffee and Film in Orlando. This time around, Priscilla will be joining us with her super-duper crocheting wonders! I'll post more updates on our crafty wares soon. Cream Cheese filled Pumpkin Cupcake Recipe

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I got the urge to bake from scratch and ended up making Pumpkin cupcakes. I've adapted recipes from three different sites. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures this time.

Pumpkin Cupcake (from www.marthastewart.com)
Ingredients-Makes 18-24
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon coarse salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 cup packed light-brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 can (15 ounces) pumpkin puree

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cupcake pans with paper liners; set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice; set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together, brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, and eggs. Add dry ingredients, and whisk until smooth. Whisk in pumpkin puree.
Divide batter evenly among liners, filling each about 1/3 of the way. Add a teaspoon size dab of Cream Cheese Filling, (see recipe below) and then add more pumpkin batter until liners are about 3/4 full. Bake until tops spring back when touched, and a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes, rotating pans once if needed. Transfer to a wire rack; let cool completely.

Cream Cheese Filling
Ingredients
4 oz. cream cheese
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg

Directions

Mix ingredients well

Creme Cheese Frosting
Ingredients
4 oz. unsalted butter at room temperature
8 oz. Philadelphia cream cheese at room temperature
1 tbsp. vanilla
5 cups sifted confectioners' sugar

Directions

Cream the butter and cream cheese together until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla and beat.
Add 1 cup of sifted powdered sugar at a time and continue to beat frosting for about 5 minutes.
